COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH READY TO START
Speeding vehicles is the top
priority for residents of rural East Bassetlaw. A community speed watch
group has been formed in Misterton. Volunteers’ will have had training
in the next few weeks, then will be ready to start checking drivers’
speed. More volunteers are needed. If interested, contact PCSO Dave
Airey at The Misterton Centre and he will pass on the details to the
respective co-ordinator.
RESIDENTS WARNED OF INSULATION SCAM
Residents in rural areas are
being warned about a possible scam on cavity wall and loft insulation.
An elderly couple parted with £60 deposit but no-one has returned to
carry out the works. Bassetlaw Council’s Warmstreets Scheme uses a
company called Apex Carbon Solutions. Workers always show ID cards and
provide a phone number so that householders can check the legitimacy of
the scheme. Warmstreets does not ask for money upfront. Further
information about Warmstreets is available from Bassetlaw District
Council on 01909 534547 or from Warmstreets on 0800 043 9569.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HOME FROM HOSPITAL SCHEME
A scheme to
help hospital patients make the transition back home is looking for
volunteers. If you have a few hours a week to spare and are over the age
of 18, call the WRVS on 01909 484437 or e-mail
Bassetlaw@WRVS.org.uk.
The scheme gives volunteers the chance to make new friends. Ongoing
training is provided; the WRVS pays expenses.
FIRST
CONTACT SIGNPOSTING SCHEME
The First Contact scheme
uses a simple checklist to help people aged 60 or over receive services
to keep them safe and independent in their own homes. If a staff member
from any of the partner agencies goes into an older person’s home, such
as a firefighter, police officer or volunteer, they will complete a
checklist to find out if they have any other needs for:
·
a home security check
·
repairs or
mobility adaptations that need doing in the home
·
any
energy-saving improvements to keep warm and reduce energy bills
·
confidential
advice on any money the householder may be entitled to
·
crime
reduction advice
·
signposting
to local community transport schemes
·
signposting
to local voluntary and community groups and clubs
·
advice on
different types of housing accommodation that may be available
For
more information, please contact Jayne Bullock (Bassetlaw First Contact
Co-ordinator) at the Bassetlaw Action Centre on: 01777 709650 or e-mail:

available there – call in or ring 891872.

CRIME-FREE MONTHS COME TO AN END
Three
crime-free months came to an end when a theft from a motor vehicle was
reported in late January and offenders tried to gain entry to a
brick-built outbuilding at a property on Canal Lane, West Stockwith. The
lower panel of a stable door was forced and another door to a second
outbuilding was also forced and entry gained. The incident happened
between 29 January and 02 February.
Notts Police advise that householders check their buildings’ security,
particularly outbuildings. Alarms for outbuildings are readily available
from most DIY stores.
If you have any information in relation to the above crime please
contact the control room on 101 and quote the incident number above.
